Warm, comforting and full of flavour, this easy creamy ginger porridge is the perfect breakfast for chilly mornings. Tiptree’s fiery Ginger Conserve adds a gentle heat and sweetness, while a pinch of ground ginger stirred into the oats enhances the warming spice. Finished with ripe pear slices, toasted walnuts and a light sprinkle of Demerara sugar for crunch, this cosy porridge bowl is a nourishing way to start the day.
Ingredients
For the porridge
-
40g jumbo rolled oats
-
200ml of milk, either dairy or plant-based milk
-
¼ tsp powdered ground ginger
For the topping
-
1 heaped tsp Tiptree Ginger Conserve
-
Half a pear, cored and cut into thin slices
-
4 walnut halves
Directions
Add the oats, milk and ground ginger to a large microwave-safe bowl, mix and cook on high power for 4 minutes, stirring halfway through. A large bowl ensures that it doesn’t bubble over. Alternatively heat the milk in a medium saucepan over a medium heat until it just boils, add the oats and ground ginger and simmer for around 4-5 minutes until thick and creamy, stirring all the time.
Meanwhile, toast the walnuts in a dry pan over a medium heat for around 5 minutes until slightly darkened. Toasting nuts really brings out their flavour. Leave to cool.
To assemble, pour the porridge into a breakfast bowl, top with the sliced pears and the Ginger Conserve. Crumble the walnuts over the top, finishing with a sprinkling of Demerara sugar.
