LITTLE SCARLET MUSIC FESTIVAL 2023

The sixth Little Scarlet Music Festival took place in the sunshine at Tiptree Farm. This is a festival for the local community which takes place in the Jubilee Orchard at Tiptree Farm, and is named after the variety of strawberry which is grown at Tiptree. This year the proceeds of all tickets sold will be donated to the Marie Curie charity. Volunteers for the charity came along for the day to raise awareness of this worthy cause.

The festival had been rescheduled due to stormy weather in July, and luckily the weather in September was much kinder, with the sun shining throughout the day.

Local dramatic group KYDS opened the main stage with songs from Matilda, and six local bands performed on the stage made from Tiptree lorries.

The line up of local bands featured The Punk Freud, The Suffolk Slappers, Tantric Zoo, Jax & Co, Slugworth, and Mixtape. These local bands brought the crowd to their feet to dance in the sunshine.

In between the band performances, festival visitors were encouraged to sing in the ‘Busk Stop’ tent, which each year unearths some hidden gems!

Children’s entertainer Gunpower Gertie provided the children with plenty of activities, with lots of fun during the wheel barrow race.

Face painting, henna tattoos and hula hooping were enjoyed and visitors cooled down by enjoying ice creams, and ‘Tiptree Punch’ from the Tiptree Bus.

Local brewery Datum Attitude Brewing Co brewed a strawberry beer using berries from the Tiptree farm, they named it ‘Send More Jam’ after the historical story of Lieutenant Milburn dropping a streamer from a plane with a message for the jam factory to send more jam to the front line during WW1.

Event Organiser Jeanette Lynes said  “Every year Little Scarlet Music Festival gets better and better! Postponing this year’s event from July to September was quite risky but not as risky as keeping to the original date with it’s bad weather. People came in their droves on Saturday 2nd September to enjoy the live music, the children’s area, the variety of stalls, the food and drink, and the glorious sunshine. Little Scarlet Music Festival has become a highly anticipated event for Tiptree and, since the first one in 2016, has developed its own fabulous ambience. The festival continues to provide an enormous amount of fun and enjoyment for the whole community as well as raising funds for very worthwhile charities each year. Tiptree… you make me very proud!”
