Ham Salad Sandwich with Wholegrain Mustard
Rated 5.0 stars by 1 users
Simple things done well are often the most satisfying, and this classic ham sandwich is a perfect example. Soft slices of floury white buttered bread are filled with slices of ham, lettuce and tomato. The finishing touch is a spread of Tiptree Wholegrain Mustard; its gentle heat and textured mustard seeds bring a delicious depth of flavour that beautifully complements the ham. Uncomplicated, comforting and full of flavour, it’s a sandwich that’s perfect for a packed lunch or a picnic.
Ingredients
-
2 slices of white floury sandwich bread
-
Salted butter for spreading
-
1-2 tsp Tiptree Wholegrain Mustard, to taste
-
6 slices of wafer-thin honey-roast ham
-
2 small tomatoes
-
4 slices of little gem lettuce
Directions
Slice the tomatoes and wash and dry the lettuce leaves.
Butter the slices of bread to your preference.
Generously spread one of the buttered side slices of bread with the Wholegrain Mustard then arrange the slices of ham on top.
Top with the tomatoes and lettuce; adding the lettuce last stops the bread from going soggy from the tomatoes.
Place the other slice of bread on top, buttered side down.
Lightly press down and cut the sandwich in half.
Additional Information
Add a few slices of cheese if you’d like a more substantial sandwich.
If you’d prefer to toast it, leave out the lettuce and serve it on the side. Butter the outside of the sandwich and grill or fry for about 5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crisp. This method works particularly well when cheese is added, creating a deliciously melty filling.
