Fruit growers and preservers since 1885

Tiptree, As it should be

We’ve been proudly making jam in the heart of Essex since Arthur Charles Wilkin and his wife Mary Ann Wilkin began creating their finest Strawberry Conserve in 1885, and the family has been farming there for even longer.

Over 140 years later, Wilkin & Sons is still making jam using fruit from our own English farm.

Our History

The ‘Tiptree’ story begins around the early 1700s with Trewlands, the farm that was later to become the main site for jam-making in the Essex village of Tiptree. Today, there are some 11,000 inhabitants in what may well be the largest village in the country.

The Tiptree Museum

A lifetime ago, Mr John Wilkin began collecting the paraphernalia of preserve making and Essex village life. He carefully stored away pictures, documents and redundant machines in quiet corners of the preserve factory and as the business approached its Centenary celebrations he asked for room to display some of his hoard.

Celebrating 140 Years

In 2025 we celebrated our 140th year of Jam making at our factory in Tiptree, Essex. Learn more about key moments in our company history.
